Ebara Technologies, Inc. (ETI) hired me through a temporary employment agency in March 2018. Originally, I signed on to do 9 weeks while they hired a full time employee to hold my position. However, I excelled in the position and had my contract renewed multiple times.

As the Marketing Administrative Assistant I worked for the Senior Marketing Product Manager, John Makin. I handled and organized multiple projects for John, one of my main responsibilities was to ensure that ETI was registered and everything was organized for the various national trade shows that our segment managers attended. I had to ensure that all services for the ETI exhibits were ordered and correctly installed. These services include furniture, carpet, electricity, wifi, signage and lighting. For the larger trade shows I coordinated with the shipping department on logistics for crates I packed with our branded giveaways, promotional materials and sample products.

The largest trade show I organized was SEMICON West 2018. In addition to organizing everything described above I had to coordinate with over 60 employees and executives on booking their hotels and dining reservations, registering for admittance badges and scheduling all meetings in ETI’s conference rooms. Organizing these logistics was made more difficult since most executives were flying in from ETI’s parent company, Ebara Corporation, located in Japan. Despite the many moving parts I was able to organize everything exactly as needed and the trade show was a success.

The other aspect of my job was design based, I created magazine advertisements and designed the monthly newsletters. For tradeshows I created any needed promotional material including posters, product information sheets and product pop-up banners of varying sizes. I worked with segment managers to rebrand their sales content including brochures and presentations. While I had a certain amount of freedom with the designs I had a strict corporate branding guide that I had to adhere to and the competing visions of different product managers. Learning to find a middle ground between two individuals idea of the perfect design was one of the most important skills that I cultivated while working at ETI.

In addition to the physical promotional material I was also charged with updating various aspects of the company’s website. I researched and worked with an outside photographer to organize multiple product photo shoots so that I could replaced poor quality product images and updated product banners. I created new product and employee information pages and fixed formatting and grammar issues. The company website was hosted through a program called CMS Editor which turned out to be a very limiting design interface. I worked closely with ETI’s assigned contact at the web design company to try and find ways to work around the limited editing capabilities. As with the physical materials, I often had to deal with conflicting opinions on the ideal design.

Below you can find some examples of the website design work that I completed.

Additionally, I managed ETI’s social media accounts including Facebook and Twitter. The company Facebook was not utilizing the 'Event Calendar' and had not advertised their presence at any trade shows since 2015. Since starting at ETI in 2018 I have created 9 Facebook events that reached a total of 1,032 people. In 2017 ETI posted 10 times reaching 259 people, in 2018 I posted 21 times and reached 857 people.

The company Twitter page was also underutilized before my arrival at ETI. In 2017 a total of 10 tweets were published. In contrast, we have tweeted 38 times in 2018. In September alone, ETI  tweeted 9 times creating a total of 4,035 impressions in one month.

I grew the audience for both platforms not only through posts and tweets but by making connections with industry professionals. I was able to organically attract attention and gain loyal followers by retweeting and ‘liking’ content, publishing photo’s of company events and posting eye-catching advertisements.

My time at Ebara Technologies, Inc. allowed me to hone my design and organizational skills.

I was expected to be a self-starter as my boss was often traveling and not in office.

I was assigned projects and then expected to use my resources and problem solving skills to complete the project. I highly enjoyed the work environment and felt

myself flourish as a professional.
